OUR VARIETIES - NADORCOTT MANDARIN
Nadorcott is a variety with excellent organoleptic qualities and a ripening point that makes it at the centre of the second part of the clementine season.
CATEGORIES
One of the first varieties to arrive at the beginning of the year is the Nadorcott, a variety with excellent organoleptic qualities and a ripening point that makes it the focus of the second part of the clementine season.
At Cañamás Hnos we grow the Nadorcott at out states in the Andalucian region and the Levante region, following the highest standards of quality and environmental management. The in-house production allows us a greater control of the agricultural practices applied during the whole process of growing and harvesting the fruit.
WHAT MAKES NADORCOTT A SPECIAL VARIETY?
EXCELLENT CHARACTERISTICS
The fruit from the Nadorcott has a bright redish orange colour, oblate in shape and with a thin skin very easy to peel. They are self-incompatible citrus fruits, which means they don’t produce seeds without cross-pollination.
Nadorcott contains a higher percentage of juice than other similar varieties, reaching up to 60%. This quality, together with a well-regulated acidity, gives it that sweet and smooth taste characteristic of the Nadorcott. This variety maintains excellent levels of acidity and juice throughout the harvesting period.
PROTECTED VARIETY
Nadorcott is a variety managed by the Protected Plant Varieties Club (CVVP, in Spanish), whose aim is to give value to the farmer and to citriculture. The management model developed by the CVVP is committed to the legitimacy of production thanks to the free choice of farmers who opt for this variety and, in addition, allows the product to be freely marketed.
The Nadorcott management model includes a high level of protection for the variety, regular inspections, and audits to ensure legitimacy, the appropriate certification of each crop and the defence of the variety’s commercial exploitation rights.
SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE
Considered a late clementine, we are talking about a variety of vigorous, highly productive trees, with an extended harvesting period, being able to be conserved well on the tree from January (beginning of the ripening season) until April. This means better profitability for the farmer and an adequate crop continuity.
What’s interesting about the Nadorcott is that this is a variety with a low water consumption, which allows us to grow in a more sustainable and environmentally friendly way, in line with our environmental protection plan implemented in all the Group’s farms.
Thanks to all these characteristics, Nadorcott is one of the most eagerly awaited varieties of the season by both growers and consumers. From the field to the table, the Nadorcott has qualities to satisfy the needs of the entire distribution chain.
