PREMIUM ORANGES - NAVELATE
Do you know what makes Navel-Late a premium variety?
CATEGORIES
A few weeks ago, we talked in our blog about the mandarin Nadorcott as one of the most eagerly awaited varieties of the season, whose qualities meet the needs of growers and consumers. Now, we are focusing on the queen of the premium oranges: the Navel-Late.
These two varieties have one thing in common: their excellent characteristics and their good results, which make them stand out from other varieties. Focusing on the Spanish oranges, what makes the Navel-Late a premium variety?
LATE NAVEL
This orange is a late Navel variety, as its name indicates, perfect for the second part of the Spanish citrus season, with a harvesting period that goes from January to May. The fruits of this variety have a greater adherence to the stalk so they can remain in optimum conditions longer on the tree before being harvested. At Cañamás Hermanos we harvest the fruit in its optimal point of ripeness, and we process them in our warehouse in l’Alcúdia (Valencia), following strict quality controls, taking care of the entire production process to maintain al their properties and ensure food safety.
QUALITY AND TASTE
These Navel-late oranges grown on the Cañamás Hermanos farms are medium-sized and therefore more commercial, adapted to the demands of our customers in this part of the season, which covers winter and part of the spring.
Externally, Navel-Late fruits are distinguished by their slightly rough skin, very thin that facilitates peeling and a smaller and less pronounced navel than other varieties of the Navel Group. Its excellent organoleptic qualities make it the perfect orange for table consumption, thanks to the absence of seeds and a juicy pulp with a firm texture that gives it a smooth, balanced, and sweet flavour.
JUICY JUICE
It is precisely this juicy, seedless pulp that makes the Navel-late a perfect variety for juicing as it allows us to obtain around 55-60% juice. One of the most distinctive characteristics of this variety is its low limonin content, which means that the juice does not become bitter after squeezing, keeping its sweet and juicy flavour for longer.
