CAÑAMÁS CITRUS FRUITS - AUTUMN EDITION
Among the different autumn fruits found in the markets, do you know the varieties of citrus fruit that are available in these months?
CATEGORIES
Citrus fruits are among the most consumed fruits in autumn, with several varieties of oranges and clementines that start a Spanish production season that will last until the summer. At Cañamás Hnos we work to offer you these delicious seasonal fruits, grown on our farms, following a sustainable production process to obtain citrus fruits with a high-quality taste and a low environmental impact.
Citrus fruits stand out for their high vitamin C content and their antioxidant properties that help to strengthen our immune system. Furthermore, citrus fruits produced in Spain are synonymous with proximity, environmental protection and food safety, due to strict controls to which the fruits are subjected by the competent authorities.
And among the different autumn fruits on the markets, which citrus varieties are available in these months?
ORANGES
We are in the middle of the national orange campaign, with the first Navelinas of the season. This is a variety with an intense orange colour, ideal for fresh consumption. Navelinas are seedless and offer a juicy pulp with a high percentage of juice. But if we are talking about juice, we cannot forget the Salustiana, which will be arriving on the markets in the next few weeks. It is a typically Spanish variety that is perfect for juice thanks to its extra juicy flesh.
CLEMENTINES
In the clementine section, it is time for Clemenules, a variety of intense orange colour, with a tender pulp and a high juice content. Its sweet and pleasant flavour and its size mean that it is usually eaten as table fruit, ideal for children.
And soon the first Clemenvilla will be arriving at our production centre, which stand out for their intense reddish orange colour and flattened shape. As it is seedless, it is suitable for both fresh consumption and juice. It has a slight acidity that makes it less sweet than other varieties, but gives it a very characteristic aroma.
GRAPEFRUIT
In our centre in l’Alcúdia we are also producing grapefruits in the Star Ruby variety, which has a reddish flesh and a sweeter flavour than other varieties. These grapefruits have a smooth skin which makes them easy to eat as table fruit and they also contain high levels of juice.
The Star Ruby grapefruit is rich in citric acids and vitamins, especially vitamin C, as well as calcium, magnesium or iron. It also has antioxidant properties and folic acid and is also a great source of hydration due to its water content, making it another great ally in our health care.
Citrus fruits and other seasonal fruits should be an essential part of our diet during autumn, to be enjoyed at any time of the day, both fresh and in juices, because of the health benefits of eating fruit and vegetables.
