Sustainability, understood in its broadest sense, is a fundamental axis in the business structure of Cañamás Hermanos. The company addresses environmental, social and economic challenges with a comprehensive approach that encompasses all areas of the company. A strategy that starts on the farm, the basis of all the Group’s work, and extends to production and relations with all stakeholders, from internal staff to consumers and suppliers.

Focusing on the first point, at Cañamás Hermanos we work with the aim of reducing the environmental impact of our activity on the environment around us. Thanks to our own production, we can manage and control the use of resources and their impact on the environment from the very first stages.

Sustainable production

In the nearly 2 300 hectares of our own production, we carry out sustainable citrus fruit production, which allows us to apply responsible agricultural techniques, minimizing the use of fertilizers and phytosanitary products and optimizing water consumption on our farms.

In addition, the proximity between the field and the production centers ensures a fresh and high-quality product, thus reducing our carbon footprint. We also have energy management measures in our facilities, such as photovoltaic production and temperature control systems, which improve the quality of our citrus fruits and contribute to reducing our environmental impact.

These and other actions are included in the BIODiversity Grow certification which, since 2022, ensures sustainable production, packaging and marketing of our entire range of products.

Improving water management

One of the greatest challenges in agricultural production today is the efficient management of water resources. Therefore, as part of our sustainability policy, we have a specific water management plan, designed to guarantee the viability of agricultural production in line with environmental and biodiversity protection actions.

This plan includes:

-Drip irrigation: allows for a more efficient distribution of water, ensuring that only the roots of the citrus trees receive the exact amount of water they need.

-Ground covers: they help to reduce evaporation of water from the soil, thus better maintaining moisture.

-Soil moisture management: substituting chemical fertilizers with organic fertilizers enhances the soil’s ability to retain moisture.

- Rainwater harvesting: reducing dependence on external and more costly sources

- Adaptation to local climatic conditions: by adapting crops to the local climate. This is why we don’t grow the same varieties on all farms throughout the season.

Our commitment to the environment, reflected in every stage of production, drives us to continue innovating and improving our practices to ensure a more sustainable future. Aware of the value of water in citriculture and the importance of caring for our environment, we believe that the balance between agricultural production and environmental responsibility is key to meeting the challenges of the present and the future.
